The Full Story
The idea of a home handyman business that has design chops has been in the back of my mind since the end of college at the U of MN, and maybe as far back as when I worked for a home contractor in high school framing, drywalling and roofing. I graduated with a BS in Business from the Carlson School of Management with an emphasis in small business & entrepreneurship. So I was on the right track for something like this. But serendipity led me to work for a retailer that was anything but small in the Twin Cities.
After spending 32 years in corporate, something pretty atypical even for a Gen Xer, a job elimination brought that chapter to a close. I am grateful that over a third of that career was spent designing and space planning, and later, leading designers of new and remodeling stores; definitely scratching my designer itch. Nearly an additional third of those years were spent supporting the operations and logistics of new and remodel projects, where the design, engineering, and construction disciplines were always close at hand.
With support of my family, and most of all, the steadfast belief from my rock of a wife, I'm setting out to develop this concept and see where it leads. I have a passion for design and quality craftsmanship and have spent 30+ years repairing, remodeling and dreaming what the interior and exterior of our home could be. I want to share that passion with others and help them solve their own challenges, whether it's changing out locksets or providing design and layout ideas for a major remodel.
